Project Bikes

Here's are some of bikes that we have acquired.

The intention of this page is to show some of the interesting bikes we managed to get our hands on and what we do plan to do with them.

As we get the bikes in we fully assess each one and categorise them into groups:-

bullet

sold on as seen (whatever their state!)

bullet

requires full restoration

bullet

requires partial restoration, maybe replace a few parts

bullet

service, tune up and a  polish

bullet

a keeper (toys for the boys)

Honda CB550F2

I had one of these in 1980 not long after I passed my test so when an un-restored one came up, exactly the same colour and year, I just had to have it.

We removed the rocker cover and gave it a bead blast 'cause it was looking a bit scabby. We've had to change the air filter inlet rubbers because they were a bit cracked. and now we're just waiting on delivery of a set of HT coils and then it should be ready for the road.

We plan to ride this bike to the Tain Vintage Car/bike rally on Sunday 21st June 2009.

Tain is about 34 miles north of Inverness on the A9.

14th June 09

We've since got the bike MOT'd but we had to take it in for its MOT with the original HT coils fitted.  For some reason the replacement coils haven't arrived yet!

This weekend we had our first run on the bike.

The local Highland Classic Motorcycle Club had their annual rally Sunday so off we went round Loch Ness.

Here's a photo of the bike at the event.

Honda CB400F

July 09

We've jut gone and bought a Honda CB400F locally.  The bike's in need of a full restoration due to the usual corrosion on the frame, wheel rims and engine casings so sometime we will be starting another restoration project when we get the time!

RD250F

... and that's all that left now!

Just like the Honda CB550 above, Colin had one of these in his youth, so this one is for keeps.

Not long after we got the bike it was stripped down and the frame taken down to our powder coaters.

The frame is now back with us and is in the queue......

1st August 09

... its still in the queue.  We've got lots of other work on just now so the RD is having to take a back step just now.

We've also got a Triumph Tiger T100 and a Honda 400F to restore as well so there's a bit of juggling going on.  Its most probable that we'll be doing the restoration during the winter months.

OSSA Mar 250cc

This is one of our own bikes that currently in the process of a full restoration.

There's no "before" pictures because it was stripped down in a hurry so we could get the frame off to the powder coaters.

The engine/gearbox has been stripped down and the crank cases bead blasted.  A few bearings needed replacing and of course all the oil seals and gaskets. The crank was perfect for re-use as well as the bore/piston and rings.

The engine has been rebuild now and is back in its frame.

Here's the bike as good as finished at a day out on the annual local club rally.

and some more pictures taken on a sunny November day.

Gone to Pastures New

Here's some of our bikes that we've sold on.

Suzuki GT380 M-Model, 1975

We got this bike at the beginning of Feb this year, from someone fairly local.

All we've had to do to it was to get the engine running, give it a bit of a steam clean and a polish and get it MOT'd.

The clocks show only 37000 km and we're sure that the mileage is genuine.

There wasn't much effort required in getting the engine running. The carbs were removed, stripped completely and given a really good clean.  Points cleaned, adjusted and the ignition timing set and off it went once we fitted a newly charge battery and checked and filled the oils.

It started after a few kicks, surprisingly given the fact it's not been run for a while but the engine sounds great, especially with the expansion pipes fitted!

We took it to our local bike shop and returned shortly later with an MOT.

We've sold the bike on now to someone local and we see it buzzing about from time to time.

Kawasaki GPz900R Model-A1

This one is an A-1 model, which is the model that bikers are now looking for.

Introduced in 1984.  At that time it was the fastest production bike capable of 155mph, thanks to its 115BHP, 16 valve water cooled engine and 6 speed box.

Some of you will recall the bike Tom Cruise rode in the 1985 film Top Gun.  That was the American A2 model, known in the states as the "Ninja ".

Anyway...

We've had this bike for about year now and its been stored away gathering dust!  This bike was purchased locally but had a cam-chain problem which we manage to fix just shortly after we got it.
When it arrived we couldn't decide whether to restore the bike, tart it up or sell as is so that's mainly why its been laid up in our store, until fairly recently when we decided it should go.

Same dilemma though, for an MOT it needed 2 new tyres and the fork seals replaced and probably the brakes needed fully stripped and serviced.

This bike's gone to a better home now.  An enthusiast from down Aberdeen way has decided he'd like a shot at restoring a bike!

Suzuki GS1000

One of the best looking GS thou' around.  Sadly for some this one we sold fairly quickly to someone fairly local.  Wish we'd kept it for ourselves!

Suzuki GT750A "Kettle"

We bought this kettle with the intention of restoring it ourselves but after reviewing the amount of labour hours we would have needed to spend on it and money for parts we decided that, for us, the best thing would be to pass it on.

This bike went of to someone from Cleveland.

Kawasaki S1 250

Kawasaki KH250

Kawasaki KH250

Not shown in the photo but there's an engine plus a load of engine spares that go with this bike.

All in need of full restoration. Sold on e-bay to different buyers.
