Bright Zinc Plating

The number of times we get in a bike and its condition would be transformed dramatically by replacing all the rusty old nuts and bolts with nice new original ones whether it be a zinc or chrome plated part.
As you appreciate this is a very expensive business replacing all the parts so we decided that it would make sense to set up a process whereby we could at least re-plate some of the zinc plated parts where the plating had since long gone.

We purchased a "beginners" bright zinc plating (BZP) kit with the intention of setting up a permanent plating process bench once we had gained the necessary experience and could repeat the plating process with acceptable and repeatable results.

Straight away we realised that we could produce acceptable results.

caustic soda .. acid dip ...

..zinc plating

.... and hey presto

final result

These parts had the minimal amount of time spent on their preparation. If you need a really good finish then you'll need to spend time grinding/filing and polishing etc before you plate the parts. Most of these parts were only given a moment in the grit blaster but for fasteners this is probably acceptable.

Please don't ask us to take onboard zinc plating.  We plan only to plate bike parts that we have in our workshop due to fact that its fairly labour intensive and we're not planning on productionising yet!
